Energy Grains Grand Island, LLC

While most ethanol plants in the state have been brought in by outside interests, this plant will be locally owned and operated. "This is doing it the hard way," said legal counsel and Energy Grains partner Dan Lindstrom of Kearney. "We're interested in doing this the hard way because it's the right way and better long term for Nebraska."

With 12 ethanol production plants in Nebraska, and other plants under consideration, people often ask, “Why another?” The answer lies in Energy Grains Development Group’s belief in differentiation and competitive advantages.

Site Location:
- Located adjacent to Grand Island’s Platte Generating Station power plant
- Abundant water supply (* See Groundwater Modeling Study)
- Logistics (Site located 1.5 miles between two Interstate 80 exits)
- Available utilities (Natural gas, electricity, sewer, & water)
- Rail access (Union Pacific short line)
- Located amongst top corn producing counties (*See Corn Production Table below)
- New grain procurement contracting method focused on benefiting local producers
- Surrounding cattle on feed (300,000 head within 50 miles)

The development group has chosen a site that it feels is second to none in the state of Nebraska.

One hundred and fifty nine acres of land located directly north of the Platte Generating Station in Grand Island will be the future home of the EGGI ethanol plant, which will produce up to 100 million gallons of ethanol a year. The site was successfully rezoned into M-2 Heavy Industrial, has been annexed into the city limits, and awaits approval for its Blighted/Substandard Study. The group has also received approval from the City of Grand Island for its Conditional Use Permit and has the support for the final application of its Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds, which will provide $350,000 for public improvements.

Partnerships also play an integral part in the development phase and provide an edge in quality, timeliness, and overall project execution. EGDG has carefully interviewed and selected its vendors for the EGGI plant.

Governor Heineman has given accolades to EGDG saying, "It's like hitting a grand-slam home run to have local investment and local commitment.”
